Folklore & History Used since antiquity, marjoram was cherished for its medicinal and culinary properties. The Greeks employed it to treat spasms and excess fluid in tissues, viewing it as an antidote to poison. The Greek term "orosganos," meaning "joy of the mountain," is fitting as it was traditionally given to newlyweds as a token of good fortune. Marjoram was also planted in graveyards, believed to bring peace to departed souls.
